Thursday 13: 13 Cheap Valentine's Day Gifts

Thirteen Cheap Valentine's Day Gifts
You don't have to be a millionaire to give the perfect gift on Valentine's Day...It just takes a little creativity, true love, and some planning ;-)
This week, I'm going to share 13 ideas for cheap Valentine's Day Gifts (nothing more than 20 bucks) to get the creative wheels turning in time for February 14th. Cheap doesn't have to be unromantic...in fact, some of these would make better Valentine's Day gifts to me than jewelry and roses!
1....Make your valentine a CD of carefully chosen songs that mean something to both of you. Avoid the break-p songs, even if they are favorites, and if you have a little experience with technology, add a recording of a personal love message somewhere in the middle for a nice surprise.
2...Ghirardelli's chocolates Not the most creative, but cheap and yummy!
3...A handmade note may seem like a cheesy gift for Valentine's Day, but not if you stretch it to a year long event! Print 52 hearts (PDF file)on colored construction paper, write a love note or special message on each one, and give your Valentine one heart a week beginning with Valentine's Day. Hide the hearts in your love's coat pocket, car, lunch bag, mail it, tape it to the bathroom mirror, etc.
4...If you're looking for a traditional Valentine's Day gift that is cheap and unique, consider a crystal paper rose. These are beautiful and they don't die!
5...Say I love you in creative ways. Make a trail of meaningful sayings from candy hearts, use magnetic or foam letters to spell out messages throughout the house, or get crazy with spray paint across the front lawn. The thought behind these make them special gifts.
6...Naturally creative people can woo their lover with a personalized poem, an essay on love, or a moonlight serenade of love songs. Draw a picture for your valentine, frame a special photograph, or write down all the reasons you're in love. Gifts from the heart are keepsakes that create memories.
7...Plan an evening in with romantic movies and lots of cuddling. Guys - this is a good time to watch those chick flicks your woman has been dying to see...yes, the one's you cringe at ;-)
8...Create a bouquet of red and pink balloons. Before blowing them up, stick a piece of candy, a love note, or some sort of cheap surprise inside each one. Tye them together with a colorful ribbon attached to a small stuffed animal or giant chocolate kiss. When the balloons deflate in a couple days, your valentine will get the other gifts.
9...Rich chocolate truffles Chocolate is an aphrodisiac, even if it's not creative!
10...Surprise your valentine all day long. This idea will require some adjusting, depending on the schedules of you and your love. Instead of sending a dozen roses and a card, start the day with a rose, a note, a balloon, etc. Later in the day, have a friend drop off a second token of your affection at your Valentine's office, surprise your love with a sandwich lunch, leave a love note on the windshield, leave another trinket at home, and end the day with a final gift of love on the pillow before bed.
11...Get daring this year and play a romantic game that will heat up the night. If you need some help, check out 100 great sex games from Michael Webb.
12...There are a lot of ways to give your Valentine romantic coupons. Hide them around the house, wrap them in boxes, or put them in a card. Coupons are a good way to let your sweetheart choose their perfect gift. Things like an intimate massage, a fun night in, or even attending an event you usually don't enjoy can make wonderful gifts that cost next to nothing...and with coupons, your lover can redeem their gift when they want! If you're short on time or creativeness, try these printable romantic coupons and love notes.
13...The Ultimate Cheap Valentine's Day Gift, at least in my opinion...Plan a romantic scavenger hunt, starting with a handmade note or card leading to another clue attached to a rose or chocolate kiss, finally ending with a candlelit dinner at home (spaghetti or lasagna is an elegant meal that isn't too hard to prepare and doesn't cost a fortune.) Dessert can include a final clue leading to a romantic bubblebath and whatever else the night may hold ;-)

Thursday 13: 13 Valentine's Day Surprises that may not be the most appreciated

Thirteen Valentine's Day Gifts We Do Not Recommend
Is it too early to start thinking about Valentine's Day? Not for us - Valentine's Day is our favorite holiday around here :-) And it's only 6 weeks away!
Instead of starting out with romantic suggestions and intimate ideas that are sure to swoon the lover of your dreams (a dozen roses is a good start ;-) ), I thought we'd have a little fun with some ideas that are guaranteed to NOT turn your day into a fairytale love affair!
  1. The latest Jane Fonda workout DVD - even if you include chocolates!
  2. Tickets to your favorite sporting event, show, or other extravaganza may not be your special someone's idea of romance.
  3. Practical gifts women need are not the best choices for a memorable Valentine's Day. This includes tools, cleaning supplies, and kitchen accessories.
  4. While intimate clothing is an excellent choice for your Valentine, socks are not romantic.
  5. Men may think their cars are sexy, but women don't usually appreciate car parts, ice scrapers, or even car washes as romantic offerings.
  6. A surprise video of you and someone other than your partner is not a good idea for anytime of year, but especially not Valentine's Day.
  7. Champagne is romantic, especially in a gift basket, but a bottle of cheap liquor is not a favorite for Valentine's Day. You definitely don't want to pair it with a dirty magazine or movie LOL
  8. IOU's do not make romantic gifts, at least on most occasions, especially if you admit to not having the time to get something.
  9. On a similar note, a Valentine's Day Card with nothing but a hurriedly scrawled signature - or worst yet, not signed at all - is not romantic.
  10. A box of candies that are your partner's least favorite, like the chocolate covered cherries my loving man presented me for no reason the other day in an attempt to be romantic, or even worse, treats that your special someone is allergic to are not usually found to be romantic by the recipient.
  11. Inviting your best friend and his or her date to your Valentine's Day celebration, especially if your valentine doesn't like this friend, is not a romantic idea.
  12. Your favorite team's logo or anything regarding your favorite cause, imprinted on clothing, is not romantic if the love of your life doesn't share your passion.

What's the most unromantic gift you've received? In my house, I'm the romantic...I post most of this stuff in hopes my husband will look over my shoulder as I type and get the hint LOL.

13. My most unromantic gift ever was not a Valentine's Day Gift, but for my birthday. Not only were we out of town for his work for 6 weeks surrounding my birthday, he bought himself a new pair of Birkenstocks a couple days before my birthday. Sandals I had wanted for about 10 years! I think he took me out to dinner - with the kids! Not romantic! He's made up for it though ;-)

T13 - 13 Romantic New Year's Eve Ideas for Parents

Thirteen Romantic Things to do on New Year's Eve, even if you have kids!

Another year has come and gone! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas - we did, even though the house is destroyed and relaxation was far from part of our holidays :-)

So, how do you plan on bringing in the new year?

I'm sure there are lots of people making reservations for New Year packages at their local hotels. Maybe you're heading off to a party at a friend's house or ringing in 2008 at your favorite nigh club, maybe you're throwing your own New Year's celebration or attending a midnight service at your community worship center...

Well, not everyone is fortunate enough to have the time, the funds, or the babysitter to go out for New Year's Eve, so I thought I would put together a list of romantic ideas for New Year's Eve that can work even if you have children...

13 romantic ways to bring in the new year without leaving home

  1. Feed the little ones, do the bedtime routine, and tuck them in. If there are fireworks in your area, you may want to let them watch a few before bed or get them up for half an hour or so before midnight.

  2. Treat one another to a home spa experience: bubble bath, massages, if your man's in a really adventurous mood you can even try a refreshing face mask ;-) Don't forget scented candles to set the mood. Lavender is relaxing and arousing, rose is a romantic scent as well. This gift basket would be a perfect addition to these plans.

  3. Pop some popcorn and cuddle on the couch while you watch the festivities in Times Square.

  4. Pull out the strobe light and your favorite cd's so you can enjoy your own dance club right in your living room. If dancing in your living room isn't already a habit, it's a good time to start ;-)

  5. Bundle up, grab a blanket, and watch the fireworks in your neighborhood, if possible. We live in a state where fireworks are legal so our neighborhood is quite a show.

  6. Shoot your own fireworks if you can. If not, try some virtual fireworks in the city of your choice.

  7. Enjoy a gourmet candle light dinner for two. If you don't feel like cooking, consider take-out from a local restaurant. Steak Out Delivery is available in some areas so you don't have to leave the house for a nice dinner out.

  8. Mix a pitcher of daiquiris together and relax.

  9. Save some of the strawberries from the daiquiris to feed each other with chocolate dip.

  10. Start a fire if you have a fireplace (or enjoy this virtual fireplace, complete with sounds if you don't), drink hot cocoa, and look through pictures from past holidays together as you reminisce.

  11. Plan a night of bedroom fun to ensure a healthy and prosperous new year. Try a sex game from Michael Webb, try out a new flavored massage oil, or some other intimate adventure that you both will enjoy.

  12. Kiss passionately at midnight.

  13. Make a list of your top ten favorite memories of 2007 and share them with one another.

Valentine's Day is right around the corner so start planning your most romantic day of the year. We'd love to hear your ideas for the most romantic Valentine's Day ever...email them to us here!

T13 - 13 Fun Holiday Ideas for Singles

Thirteen Fun Holiday Ideas for Singles
Whether you're single by choice or single by circumstance, being single during the holidays can become lonely at times, especially if you're a distance from your family.
There are a variety of events geared toward singles during the holidays. Being a part of these is a great way to meet new people, even if you're not looking for a relationship, but there are many other opportunities for singles to enjoy the joys of the season.
  1. Accept the party invitation you were considering, even if you don't have a date. Mingle and have fun. Don't forget a holiday gift basket for your host!
  2. Make hot cocoa and popcorn and invite a few close friends to watch your favorite holiday movies with you one evening.
  3. Throw your own holiday party. It may be a little late this year to plan anything elaborate, but you can still host a small gathering. Check out these Christmas games to keep your party interesting.
  4. Volunteering is an opportunity to be a part of the holiday cheer. Look for local opportunities that relate to your interests. You may even get a Santa Suit and help out at an area toy drive!
  5. Treat yourself. Plan a vacation, a trip to the spa, or take yourself on a mini shopping spree.
  6. Decorate for the holidays. A festive home is the best way to enjoy your own holiday cheer.
  7. Enjoy one of your personal interests during the season. Join a craft class and create a special gift or frequent your religious organization.
  8. Tis the season to give. Make a point to donate to a charity, shop for a needy child, or even help sponsor a charity drive this holiday.
  9. If you're a single parent, consider getting creative and making simple gifts for family and friends together.
  10. Celebrate a holiday tradition from your childhood. Look at lights through your town, watch fireworks, or listen to carols while drinking cocoa.
  11. Visit a friend you haven't seen in a long time or a distanced family member you've been out of touch with.
  12. Organize a gift exchange or Secret Santa party at the office and include all your co-workers.
  13. If you're single and looking, check out A Better Way to Date by Michael Webb for the best tips for singles available.

Most of these ideas are great for singles, couples, and families alike. Being single for the holidays is not as bad as it sounds - enjoy the company of friends and family and spread the holiday cheer. :-)
